Historia

Rincón fue fundado el 16 de agosto de 1771 por Don Luis de Añasco, quien también fundó el municipio vecino que lleva su nombre. Originalmente parte del territorio de Aguada, los pobladores solicitaron independencia para establecer su propia parroquia y administración civil. Durante casi dos siglos, la economía local estuvo centrada en el cultivo de la caña de azúcar y la pesca artesanal. Un punto de inflexión cultural llegó en 1968, cuando Rincón fue sede del Campeonato Mundial de Surf en la Playa Domes, transformando el municipio en un destino de fama mundial para el turismo y los deportes acuáticos. El pueblo también albergó el primer reactor nuclear del Caribe, la planta BONUS (Boiling Nuclear Superheater), que hoy funciona como museo y punto de referencia histórico. Conocido hoy como El Pueblo de los Bellos Atardeceres y La Capital del Surf, Rincón ocupa el punto más occidental de Puerto Rico, donde el Océano Atlántico se encuentra con el Mar Caribe.

The shield is divided into green, representing the mountains and vegetation, and orange, representing Rincón's famous sunsets. A silver star at the top center honors Santa Rosa de Lima, the patron saint. A Spanish galleon represents the discovery of the island and the town's coastal identity. A central cross reflects the Christian faith of the early settlers. The shield is topped by a three-towered mural crown signifying independent municipal status.
