Dorado
Historical Overview
Dorado is a north-coast municipality that developed from within the territory of Toa Baja, formally established as a municipality in 1842. The primary Catholic parish of San Antonio de Padua holds records beginning in 1865, making it the starting point for 19th-century genealogical research. The town's name, meaning golden, reflects both the sandy coastal landscape and the municipality's distinctive coat of arms. Researchers should note that burial records were not digitized in the same parish series; civil death records and cemetery sources are the alternative for burial research. Pre-1842 family lines are typically found in Toa Baja parish registers.

The escudo features gold and brown bands: the gold stripes reference the town name Dorado (meaning golden) and the sandy coastal landscape, while the brown field honors San Antonio de Padua, the town's patron saint. The Tau cross and lily motifs connect to Saint Anthony's iconography. A three-tower crown designates Dorado as a properly constituted municipality. The shield also alludes to the Río La Plata, the Silver River that borders the municipality.
