Naranjito

Founded 1824 Central, Puerto Rico

Historical Overview

Naranjito was founded on December 3, 1824, carved from lands belonging to Bayamón, making Bayamón its mother town for genealogical research. Located in Puerto Rico's central mountain region, the municipality built its economy on coffee and tobacco agriculture. The parish of San Miguel el Arcángel anchors the town's genealogical record base, with registers beginning in 1831 documenting baptisms, marriages, and burials. Civil registration began in 1885 and provides records through the 20th century. Before Naranjito established its own parish record set, researchers should search Toa Alta parish records: Naranjito was founded in 1824 after separation from Toa Alta, and San Miguel Arcángel parish records appear to begin in the 1820s–1830s. For families in the transition period, search both Toa Alta and Naranjito.
